We got a 5on5 match to play versus Oe, so all players that would want to play this match please contact swe flag Zymon or us flag Tech as soon as possible.

If you are not yet added to our Enemy Territory roster or the Urban Terror one on ClanBase then please contact the two guys mentioned just above Wink

TG will be fighting in Enemy Territory again PDF Print E-mail

et pic

The TG Enemy Territory division will return (again...) and get ready to compete in whatever competitions that lies ahead.
The revival of the ET division will be lead by former TG bC captain swe flag Cupcake who is a known face within TG. By his side will swe flag Zymon help out with various tasks such as managing and help making sure that this will work.

swe flag Cupcake had the following to say:
"I think it is really great and i am looking forward to it."

The lineup for the new TG team hasn't yet been announced, but various names have been brought up in the discussion and both managers are looking forward to getting to work.
Meanwhile swe flag Cupcake and swe flag Zymon will be participating in the ClanBase 2v2 ladder playing for TG. And soon it will move on to 3v3 and 6v6.

Now with the UrT Division slowly picking up speed we should be able to get ourself a nice summer with hopefully a lot of success within the games we'll play.

Can it be true? According to our sources (very mysterious, it really isn't), Wolfenstein 2 is scheduled for release on August the 4th. This is in the US at least, I can't imagine that the UK/EU release will be far behind at all. Good news and start saving Very Happy

The cake that is TGT PDF Print E-mail

The Group Thing has been around for a little while now and we have accomplished quite a few things. We’ve had a whole new clan join our ranks and have our very own dedicated box running dozens of servers for our favourite games. Just recently we launched our league sites, for instance. But how do our individual members feel about all that is being done? What is their idea of The Group Thing and how do they like it here? We decided to ask them and find out how they feel about TGT and what TGT has become over the course of the past eleven months.

We found that despite being somewhat sceptical in the beginning, people all came to love our community. When TGT was born there were some who had their doubts whether they or their clan would fit in into the bigger picture. Being a small, ‘no strings attached’ ETQW clan was exactly what people wanted to be for instance... Fortunately those doubts were set aside very swiftly.

There are a great many advantages to being in a community such as ours. When Left 4 Dead released it became clear that being part of The Group Thing really is a good thing for all of us. We immediately got servers up, servers paid for by our very own members. As you all know we now have a dedicated server running over twenty of our favourite game servers. These are being flawlessly managed and set up by our server monkey Mustang; which brings us to another of our strengths. TGT provides for a great deal of diversity in members. The individual clans kept their own identities, yet still we can always find likeminded gamers to joke around with, on one of our servers, TeamSpeak or whatnot. We have an odd bunch of happy people with whom you can always have a laugh or are willing to help you with whatever problem. To say it with a quote: “TGT means friendship! It’s a unique place to be and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else”. When playing with fellow members there is – mostly – no whining, no hassle, no annoyances. TGT provides us with no-grief gaming, which is exactly what we bargained for.

As stated above there are many different people in our ranks, we have game designers, programmers, server administrators, random nubcakes, retards... This results in us having come up with our very own Haunted Mod! Others don’t much care for server set-up’s, administration and the like. They are happy to leave that to the people who know what they’re doing. Everyone can profit from each other within our community. Everyone contributes his or her ingredient to the cake that is TGT. Because there is a cake, and it’s not a lie...

And also very tasty!

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory 6 years old PDF Print E-mail

Enemy Territory, no doubt the first online game for some of our TGT members, is now six years old. The game was released exactly six years ago, the 29th of May in 2003.

While most of us have moved on to newer games, a lot of people still play the good old W:ET.  I myself played it for a few hours earlier this week, and ran into Shuku and other old friends. Despite its age, the game is still a lot of fun.

Have you never played Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, but want to give it a go? Then check out the W:ET Barracks on the Splash Damage website - it contains all the information you need to get started.

Happy Birthday Enemy Territory!

SD announces new game: BRINK PDF Print E-mail

Splash Damage have gone live with the first teaser of their new game. BRINK appears to be a game set during an apocalyptic event, although very little is known beyond this. I suspect that the game will be a first person shooter that is also a fully developed role playing style game with player actions dictating the direction of gameplay.

True to their word, I think that E3 will reveal something unique and unusual about the game.Watch this space for an exclusive article with Splash Damage in July, and keep an eye on www.brinkthegame.com

Valve promises to make DRM obsolete PDF Print E-mail
(1 vote)

Valve has released an announcement claiming that updates to the free Steamworks system will now make DRM obsolete.

Valve has just announced that unveils several new features to the Steam and Steamworks platforms which the Half-Life developer reckons will make DRM a thing of the past. Steamworks is a system of freely available tools for developers and publishers that allow them to make the most out of the Steam platform. Some of the new features that Valve announced for Steam were things we already knew about, like the ability for developers to make downloadable content available through Steam, which Ubisoft is already doing with a new set of weapons and such for Far Cry 2.

The other updates are much more interesting, namely a new anti-piracy feature called CEG that is being incorporated into the Steamworks system. CEG, which stands for Customer Executable Generation, is Valve's latest anti-piracy effort and works by essentially creating a uniquely structured version of a game for each customer. The benefit for publishers and developers is that the game is then pretty hard to copy as it is distinctly identifiable to a specific user, while legitimate customers are able to use their unique copy on as many PCs as they want. No install limits, no SecuROM, no StarForce, no rootkits, no nuthin'.

Valve reckons that CEG is a system that only benefits customers and publishers and has hopes that it'll be adopted by the market quite quickly. Since Steamworks is free for any developer to use, there's no reason why not.

May Newsflash & Donation Call. PDF Print E-mail

As most of you know, The Group Thing was founded last year with the intention of providing grief free gaming, as well as league gaming and support for the mod communities.

We have been very successful in doing all of these things. Our new dedicated server now hosts:
12 – Left 4 Dead Servers
10 - Killing Floor Servers
1 - 24 Slot Hardcore CoD 4 Server
1 - 32 Slot ET:QW Gather Server
1 - 24 Slot TF2 Server
1 - 14 Slot CSS GunGame Server
1 - 14 Slot W:ET – ETRazzro server

Plus a very large selection of bookable and league servers installed to cater for our competitive teams and upcoming leagues.

Our servers were the first Killing Floor servers to go online and remain in the global top 50 running at 96% capacity all day, and our L4D servers hosting Haunted Mod are popular all hours of the day and night with players from around the world.

With the release of the Left 4 Dead beta Development Kit our mod developers are already looking into how to improve Haunted mod, and we will shortly be releasing a standalone beta installer to enable other clans and groups to host the mod.

The Dev Kit will also see work truly begin on the highly anticipated Left 4 Dead Pro Mod, designed to balance Versus play for the Left 4 Dead Community.

Our level mappers for L4D are already investigating the kit with a view to working on the custom TGT campaign.

In addition to this we will be officially launching our TGT Leagues next week with matches easily bookable, and results recorded on our custom designed league site at http://www.thegroupthing.org/leagues/

As a community we are a thriving, productive and friendly place to be, and all of this is achieved with the kind support of Alpha Networks and the Donations of our members.

So if you enjoy being part of TGT, please take the time to send a paypal donation to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it every little counts because if we all put a little bit in often, then the group never finds itself short of funds.

Thanks for reading and for helping to make The Group Thing a reality.

- Tsujigiri and the Senior TGT Staff.
